Well, Apple has improved the interface to their own VPN. I have to admit.

Its kind of funny that I’ve only just now had need to try to connect to an Apple VPN. I’ve been running Leopard for a while on my laptop (mobile office.) And now I’ve finally tried to use it to connect to an OS X Server VPN (10.4.x). Having the VPN settings in the Network Preference panel is nice. It beats having to remember to open Internet Connect (I don’t like keeping many icons in the menu bar.)

BIG Improvement: they finally have an error window with a good message if you’ve not set the shared secret. In the 10.3 and 10.4 versions of Internet Connect you had to know where and how to set the shared secret. The computer was little help. (You have to create a configuration to get a form with a slot for it. You can’t just set the slots presented in the default information.)

Sadly, the error messages still aren’t very meaningful.
